As Canada’s public broadcaster, the CBC shares important news with people across Canada and all over the world. In the past couple years there has been a huge shift from print publishing to online publishing, making digital increasingly vital in the overall strategy of News Media and Publishing organizations. It goes without saying that in today’s digital age, teenagers are using smartphones to spend a lot of time on the Internet. As a result, printed publications and programming on television are beginning to fall by the wayside. To maintain engagement with teenage audiences, publishers and broadcasts need to adapt with technology and “go where the people are.” In this article, we look at email newsletters as an effective way for publishers and broadcasters to recapture and engage with teenagers whom are beginning to abandon the traditional means of consuming content.
